What Fracking Taught Planners That Data Center Communities Need to Learn
October 1, 2026Please Donate Today to Help Us Continue this Essential Work in 2027.
Science-based advocacy, real results – that’s been the DCS way since 2008. We do not wait for someone else to lead. We step up first and bring others along.
We need community champions, like you, who believe this place is worth protecting. Every tax-deductible dollar you give directly funds this essential work.
By 2023, we’d helped secure frack bans across the entire Delaware River Basin & New York State, and successfully fought to keep liquid drilling waste out of our watershed. Today, we’re tackling more threats: from climate-damaging fossil fuel schemes to industrial projects, such as data centers, that threaten our health and rural character.
With your support, we can continue to fight to:
- Defend the 2021 Delaware River Frack Ban – Pressure is mounting to rescind this ban that protects drinking water for everyone in the Delaware Basin, NYC, and over half of New Jersey. We’re monitoring every move and fighting back.
- Protect Our Rural Character> – We’re pushing back against inappropriate projects, like Camp FIMFO, that would fundamentally change our region.
- Stop a Sullivan County Incinerator – A proposed “Waste-to-Energy” facility would produce toxic emissions in our literal backyard. We’re advocating for real solutions to the county’s solid waste challenges.
- Challenge Regulators When Necessary – We support our ally, the Delaware River Basin Commission, but we’ve also sued them when they tried to create exemptions allowing toxic wastewater dumping.
- Build Regional Power – The River Pledge campaign and collaboration with the Delaware River Frack Ban and Climate Action Coalition, is connecting communities up and down the watershed.
- Advance Clean Energy Solutions – We continue to advocate for renewable energy solutions, for our state governments to cap emissions, and to hold fossil fuel companies accountable.
- Expose Data Center Threats – We are advocating against data centers being proposed across the basin. These facilities consume enormous amounts of energy and water while generating noise pollution and health hazards.
- Grow Our Education Hub – Our Main Street storefront in Narrowsburg, NY is a weekend destination for environmental education and community organizing. Stop by on weekend afternoons!
Behind every one of these efforts are hundreds of hours of research, testimony, coalition-building, and strategic action. We do this work so you can trust that someone is watching, questioning, and fighting for our region’s future. But we can only continue with your support.
Sincerely,
B. Arrindell
