Protect Pennsylvania’s citizens. Reject the Rex Energy Geyer well permits and immediately mandate that schools are never in an evacuation zone of unconventional gas drilling.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

After an explosion in February 2014 at an unconventional gas well site in Greene County, PA, Secretary Abruzzo stated, “This just demonstrates why making sure that the location of well pads is done responsibly because at the end of the day, the most important thing for all of us is the protection of our citizens.” Explosions and incidents at well sites across the country have required 1-2 mile evacuation zones and occurred annually in PA for each of the past 4 years. In addition, significant health impacts to citizens near well sites are now being researched and documented. Permits are under review right now in the PA DEP for a 6 well site (Geyer site) .52 miles from 3,200 children in the Mars Area School DIstrict. These children, the surrounding community, and all the communities in Pennsylvania have a constitutional right to protection from this volatile and hazardous industry that is encroaching on schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and residents. It is time to hit the pause button on unconventional gas drilling! YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Sign this petition now and tell Secretary Abruzzo to honor his words and protect the citizens of Pennsylvania.
